Fanal Forest
Laurel Forest is a UNESCO world heritage site since 1999. This spectacular forest of laurel trees at an altitude of 1400m seems out of this world. Probably, this is why part of a Star Wars film was made here in 2023. A visit is part of the must-do programme.
! Please do not climb on the trees !

Sunrise on Pico do Arieiro
If you get up early, you will be rewarded with a spectacular sunrise on the 1818 metre high Pico do Arieiro. You should plan your arrival that you are at the top at least 30 minutes before sunrise. If you like, you can then tackle the beautiful but strenuous hike to Pico Ruivo (1861 metres high).

Paul da Serra
The Paill da Serra plateau, impressive at any time of year. But you only see such beautiful broom in spring. On the Paul da Serra plateau you find the longest straight road in Madeira. The 3850 meter long perfectly straight road offers a greate photo motif in almost any weather conditions. And often nice weather awaits you on the plateau which is about 1500 meter above sea level, even if the way up leads through fog banks.

Natural pools Seixal
Piscinas naturais do Seixal, a great place to swim. Pools with sea water (and even fish) separated from the sea by small dams. Wonderful for a short stop to refresh.

Cristo Rei do Garajau
Exactly 4 years before the inauguration of the large Christo-Rei statue in Rio de Janeiro, the 14-meter-high Christo-Rei statue in Ponta do Garajau was inaugurated on October 30, 1927. The truly impressive statue, created by the French sculptor Georges Serraz, stands on a rocky outcrop between Caniço and Funchal. From the Christo-Rei statue, there is an impressive staircase leading to the top of the headland, providing a fantastic view all the way to Funchal. It is one of those places that must-see when visiting Madeira.

Ilha das Aves
The parrot and bird park Ilha das Aves in Campanário is currently still an insider tip. In a beautifully landscaped area, countless parrots and other birds can be seen. It’s possible to eat at the restaurant or refresh yourself by a drink. Some aviary seems a bit small, but in part you can go through a free-flight aviary is beautifully and generously designed.

Miradouro do Guindaste
The Miradouro do Guindaste on Madeira’s northern coast with its newly built two platforms offers a spectacular view from Faial to Ponta de São Lourenço. Let your eyes wander over the Atlantic Ocean while standing on a glass platform about 30 meters above the sea. One-off 🙂
